A Pennsylvania couple has been charged after a 10-year-old boy called 911 on his parents when he found syringes in the family’s home, police said.
Northern York Regional Police in Dover, Penn. say on August 7 they received a phone call from a child who told them he found syringes inside his parents’ house.
The boy’s parents were not home when the boy made the call.
According to NBC affiliate WGAL News, when police arrived to the home they found eight syringes, four packets of heroin, a pipe and other “drug-related items.”
A neighbour of the family called the situation sad.
“No child should be exposed to things like that,” said Holly Garner to WGAL. “[The boy] stood up for what he knew was right.”
Garner went on to say she couldn’t imagine the dilemma the young boy must have gone through.
“Could you imagine what he was going through in order to turn your own parents in? He must’ve been living in horrific conditions.”
The 10-year-old boy is now in the care of the county’s social service organization.
Lakin Michelle Stoppard, 27, and Anthony Young II, 26, have been charged with drug possession and child endangerment.
They have been released on bail and are awaiting their next court appearance.
