IHIT investigating fatal stabbing in Port Coquitlam

WATCH: A horrifying attack in broad daylight happened in Port Coquitlam Sunday afternoon. A man found bleeding to death at a plaza -- the apparent victim of a vicious stabbing. Tanya Beja reports – Aug 7, 2016

UPDATE: IHIT has announced the victim to be 65-year-old Robert Harold Vidovich, a resident of Coquitlam.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating after a person was stabbed to death was found in a Port Coquitlam plaza on Sunday afternoon.

Paramedics rushed to Shaughnessy Square near Coquitlam Avenue and Flint Street just after 1 p.m. yesterday. When they arrived they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died of his injuries.

IHIT says they belive Vidovich was stabbed with an edged weapon and the suspect immediately fled on foot.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, possibly wearing a black hoodie, pants, and a backpack. He is about 5’8″ to 5’10” and weighs 150 pounds.

“IHIT continues to work alongside the Forensics Unit, the Coroner’s Service, and the Coquitlam RCMP in an effort to identify and locate the male suspect,” says Cpl. Meghan Foster.

No specific motive for the attack has been determined but witnesses told Global News the stabbing was the result of an argument.

Anyone who may have witnessed the attack is asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers
