A highway accident may have spared the life of a piglet, who was found in the grass of a median strip on Highway 401.
Rob Boisvert found “Gracie” a week ago in a stretch of the highway between Alexandria and Kingston, Ont.
Boisvert, a volunteer for Refuge RR, believes the piglet fell off a truck headed for a factory grow farm in the Eastern Townships.
He said she would have surely been slaughtered in a few weeks or months.
Now, the refuge – one of Canada’s largest – is launching a GoFundMe campaign to cover Gracie’s expenses and vet bills.
“She is being checked for internal injuries and needs to be tested, then treated for the many diseases that are rampantly spread in factory farms in order to give her a better chance of survival,” the campaign states.
The refuge sits on 70 acres of land in Alexandria and rescues animals from all over Quebec.
