Parking at the Roxboro-Pierrefonds AMT train station comes at a premium.
To guarantee a spot, drivers have to be willing to pay $80 per month, but the problem is dozens of reserved spots sit empty while the free parking area is completely full.
Many train users end up parking their cars on nearby streets or taking their cars downtown.
Local borough mayor Jim Beis is calling on the AMT to end its pilot project of charging people to park and instead revert the entire station to free parking – as it was more than one year ago.
“The short term solution is to eliminate the over 120 or 130 vehicles parking in our neighbouring communities and allow the opportunity to come and park here,” Beis told Global News.
Beis is hoping to meet with the AMT officials within the next week to convince the transit agency to end its pilot project program.
In an email to Global News, the AMT claims 38 reserved spots have been reverted to free parking and it will continue to monitor the situation.
