WINNIPEG — The two children who drowned Monday evening in Grand Beach had only recently moved to Winnipeg within the past few years.
Friends on social media have identified them as Jhonalyn Javier, 11, and David Medina, 12.

“David is such a wonderful boy. He is now an angel,” his aunt Cindy Isabelo told Global News. “Please share how good (a person) David is. Pray for his mom and dad to be strong.”
The kids drowned while swimming after one of the children’s parents lost sight of them around 7:30 p.m., according to RCMP.
Photos posted online show the two at Grand Beach playing in the sand and water earlier Monday afternoon.
David was just shy of his 13th birthday and his family migrated to Winnipeg in November 2014. They are originally from Dasmarinas, Cavite.
While Jhonalyn and her family arrived here last August from Angeles City, Pampanga.
“It feels unreal,” read one Facebook post about the two children. “Goodnight (David and Jhonalyn). In God’s time we will see you again.”
Viewing of both kids will be on Saturday, August 6 at Mosaic Funeral Home (1839 Inkster Blvd) starting at 6 p.m.
