Two newlyweds in Hebbville, N.S., can be seen kissing below a rainbow as lightning strikes in the distance, thanks to a videographer who manipulated video shot at their wedding.
“I’d say it’s very unique and rare just to have all those different elements part of that photo,” said Mustapha Maynard, who married Morgan Maynard, nee Kaulback, on July 23.
“Yeah, there were actually two rainbows, it was a double rainbow,” said Morgan over Skype. “That photo was fantastic.”
The second rainbow wasn’t clear enough to shoot well, according to videographer Mark Sawatzky, who owns Maritime Videographic in Dartmouth.
“It was really a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It wasn’t really too much skill on my part as much as just getting incredibly lucky,” he said.
The couple were asked to kiss at Hatfield Farm in Hammonds Plains, N.S., where the wedding was held. Sawatzky continued shooting, capturing several lightning strikes.
He later merged the two clips, keeping in both the kissing couple and lightning.
“It’s definitely my best one so far,” said Sawatzky about the video.
He added that he’s already thought about his next great capture.
“Maybe if I did a wedding on a boat, and there was a low-flying bird behind the bride and groom, and a shark jumped out an ate the bird behind the bride and groom, that might top it,” said Sawatzky.
As for how the couple will top this: “We can’t,” said Morgan.
“We’ll wait for the honeymoon,” added Mustapha with a laugh.
