Recreation areas in the Ghost public land use zone, a 1,500-square-kilometre tract east of Banff National Park, will be upgraded to accommodate large recreation vehicles, Travel Alberta says.
Five areas will receive $2.5 million for work that includes widening campground roads and campsites.
As well, bear-proof garbage receptacles and new washroom facilities will be provided.

The work is to begin next year and be completed by 2018-19, the provincial government’s tourism marketing agency said.
The funding is part of $25.6 million that the province has earmarked over the next five years in the Kananaskis region.
The Ghost zone is a multiple use area. In addition to recreation, the provincially managed area is used for forestry, agriculture, and oil and gas activities.
