KELOWNA, B.C. – A 17-year-old girl who has been seen ‘doing what she wants’ by more than six million around the world has taken up a challenge to do some good with her new found fame.
Jesse Liandzis was recorded by her brother running up to a dunk tank at the downtown Kelowna block party Saturday, pushing the target, then running away.
The video was sent to Unilad, a UK based website, and the video of ‘Girl doing what she wants’ went viral.
Global Okanagan evening news anchor Doris Maria Bregolisse and meteorologist Wesla Wong played the video Monday during their show.
At that time, Wong challenged the unidentified girl to come forward and make a donation to the charity operating the dunk tank Saturday.
The dunk tank was being run by the United Way of the Central Okanagan, featuring prominent Kelowna business people who sat on the platform waiting for people to donate $5 for three chances to use a softball to hit the target and drop them into the cold water tank.
Kelowna Chamber Board of Directors President Tom Dyas was in the dunk tank when Liandzis hit the target and ran.
Liandzis heard from her father about being on Global Okanagan News Monday, and took up Wong’s challenge to donate $20 to the United Way.
The Kelowna Secondary student went further, asking that anyone who has viewed the viral video of her mischievous ways to also make a donation.
Global Okanagan will forward any donations made at their Leon Avenue studios.
The dunk tank event originally raised $1,500.
