A worker at Winroc in the Blue Heights Park complex off McCurdy Road confirmed to Global News that he hear a shot fired around 10 a.m..

RCMP say the shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Highway 97 North.

“We had a very significant response to this incident. We took it very seriously. We even engaged our air services, RCMP helicopters, our plain clothes unit and our general investigations unit. So we have several resources working on this investigation,” Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey said.

Mounties say the victim, who is known to police, was shot in a lower limb and was taken to the hospital by a witness.

“The victim wasn’t on scene when police arrived. He had been transported by someone nearby,” he said.
