It’s hard to know what’s more remarkable: that Nolan Thoroughgood was just 15 when he won the B.C. men’s amateur title last week – or that he’s only been playing been playing golf seriously for four years.

“First I went from just playing golf casually, having fun with it, then started tournament golf, having fun with it, and now I’ve kind of started winning, and it’s a different kind of fun,” said Thoroughgood.

“Fun I’m going to have to get used to.”

Thoroughgood, who goes to high school at Royal Bay Secondary in Colwood, is competing in this weekend’s BC Summer Games in Abbotsford.

And with the average age of competitors here just 14, it’s safe to say he’ll probably have higher expectations here than he did last week.

“I basically convinced myself the whole time I wasn’t going to win,” he said.
