The 11-year-old Regina boy who started his own lawn mowing business to earn enough money to buy tickets to his first Roughriders game has gained a lot of attention.
However, after Jonathon McKinney’s story aired exclusively on Global News, the family was bombarded with an outpouring of support from the community, including the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
“The Roughriders called and gave me free tickets on the sidelines!” McKinney said smiling.
The timid and shy entrepreneur says he was lost for words.
“I was so excited I could barely talk.”
The tickets didn’t stop McKinney’s work ethic, in fact he was still out mowing lawns Friday with the help of his father, Michael McKinney.
A number of companies have also offered his family more tickets, safety equipment and a new lawn mower.
Michael says the family is grateful but is also making sure that no matter how much Jonathan loves his business, that he doesn’t over work himself and still makes time to be a kid.
“Weekends we’re going to try and keep him off so he can still be a kid and go out and have some fun with his friends.”
