Canoer from Saskatoon dies after being pulled out of Moraine Lake

A 62-year-old man from Saskatoon, Sask. died after being pulled out of Moraine Lake Monday afternoon.

Mounties said officers were called to the lake near Lake Louise after receiving reports of a man falling out of a canoe that he was alone in.

According to police, the male was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to shore where CPR was performed on him.

The victim was then airlifted to Banff EMS where he was later pronounced dead.

The man was not wearing a life jacket when he was found, although one was found floating in the water nearby.

RCMP said they continued to investigate what led to the boater’s death. His family was notified, and Mounties said the man’s name will not be released.

Moraine Lake is about 190 kilometres west of Calgary in the Rocky Mountains.
