A group of travellers from California are asking for the public’s help after losing more than $20,000 in property from their vehicle.
The group of former professional soccer players are in BC to teach soccer camps. They drove from Revelstoke Saturday and parked at an EasyPark lot downtown to watch a Whitecaps Game. When they returned, their vehicle had been targeted by thieves.
“The windows are knocked out. Over $20,000 worth of video of equipment, and computers, and everything stolen out of our car,” says Dana McGregor, one of the members of the group.
“There’s broken windows and blood on the seats. Looks like someone who was really drugged up that jumped through the car, and just looking for anything to get a fix.”
Travelling with the group is photographer Lindsay Long. She was planning to document the soccer camps, but lost 3 hard-drives, computers, photography gear, camping equipment and all her clothes.
The silver, maroon and black “my Passport” hard-drives, contained two years of Long’s professional work, including wedding photos and birth stories.
“It was heartbreaking. We just came up to Vancouver to help with a camp, and you get back and your windows are smashed, and everything you hold dear that you would travel with is gone,” she says.
“But the hard drives? that stuff can’t be replaced. My nephew’s lives, my niece’s birth, somebody’s wedding.”
The group spent Sunday searching unsuccessfully through markets in the Downtown Eastside, in the hopes of finding the stolen property. They are asking anyone who comes across their belongings to call Vancouver police.
“We just want to live our life and do what we do. Starting over is really going to be hard for us, because financially it’s such a hit,” syas Long.
