Elderly man hospitalized after allegedly being robbed and beaten in Abbotsford

An 86-year-old Abbotsford man is recovering from multiple injuries after allegedly being robbed and beaten on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a man followed the elderly man into his apartment building in the 2800-block of Clearbrook Road at about 1:50 p.m. and entered his apartment. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and left him bleeding on the floor while he rummaged through personal items, eventually taking jewelry and a wallet before fleeing.

The elderly victim was found by his wife 40 minutes later and was taken to hospital to be treated for several injuries including bruises, cuts and an injury to his shoulder. The octogenarian is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries.

Following the incident, Abbotsford Police checked security video and tracked the use of the victim’s credit card to a business in the area, where he was found and arrested.

Forty-five-year-old Hughie Dean Stump has been charged with robbery, break and enter, aggravated assault, possession of stolen property and theft of a credit card.

The investigation is now being handled by the APD’s Major Crime Unit.
