Kristen Cavallari did not take kindly to the public and vicious attack from Instagram users who claimed she’s been “starving” her children.

The controversy began when the former Laguna Beach star posted a vacation photo of her sons Camden Jack, 3, and Jaxon Wyatt, 2, spending time together on a beach on the Fourth of July holiday.

“Even though we’re not in the States, we’re still celebrating. Hope everyone has fun and safe 4th! #MyGuys,” she captioned the photo of her “guys” wading in the ocean with some snorkelling gear.

The innocent Instagram post started drawing criticism almost immediately, and instead of commenting on her sons’ cute matching swim trunks, many users decided to focus on the boys’ physiques.

“I understand you live a very strict dietary lifestyle but these children are very obviously nutritionally deficient,” one Instagram user wrote.

“Seeing pictures of your boys and how they look is a bit shocking to see!” another user wrote. “I know you cook healthy but to see the bones just doesn’t seem normal, sorry!”

“Sorry that the truth hurts,” one commenter posted. “But the poor child’s bones are popping out. Instead of getting mad for everyone being alarmed look in to the child’s diet.”

Cavallari, 29, responded by blocking the users and adding a sarcastic comment.

“Yep, I starve my children,” she commented on her own post. “Just blocked the most people I’ve ever blocked in my entire life. Happy 4th hahaha.”

Parent shaming isn’t surprising, considering the criticism celebrities receive after posting anything about their children on social media. A baby with their ears pierced or a kid using a pacifier can receive major backlash just because of the high-profile status of the parents.

Social media facilitates accessibility and anonymity, which allows anyone to comment on a photo and feel safe.

She says that eating mostly organic and only wild-caught fish or grass-fed beef has also helped her husband, NFL quarterback,  Jay Cutler, manage his type 1 diabetes.

The mother of three, who’s also a mom to 7-month-old daughter Saylor, isn’t happy when her parenting skills or children are under fire, but insists that she’s doing the best job she can.

As for all the parents out there, how can you be sure your kids are at their healthiest?

During your first doctor’s visit, you can expect the measurement of his/her weight, length and head circumference to assess how they’ve been developing since birth.

Observation of your newborn’s vision, hearing and reflexes will be completed, along with a complete physical examination.

It’s important to make note of the ideal weight for your children as they grow to assure that they are getting enough nutrition. Not all children have the same body type or develop at the same time.

If you think your child has gained too much weight or is too thin, a doctor should help you decide whether your child really has a weight problem. Your doctor has measured your child’s height and weight over time, and knows whether growth is proceeding normally.
