The B.C. Lottery Corporation has selected the City of Victoria as the preferred host local government for a gaming facility proposal in the Greater Victoria region.

BCLC will develop a gaming facility to suit the market in the city but says the View Royal Casino will remain the primary facility in the region.

The lottery corporation says the choice was made after a review of submissions from the District of Saanich and the City of Victoria, which were scored on criteria including community support and geographic, economic and demographic considerations.

It says the decision on the size and scope of the new facility will be based on proposed redevelopment plans for the View Royal Casino.

Crystal Garden and a lot next door have been identified by city council as possible sites for the casino.
