Delta Police say the truck and another vehicle collided at about 9 a.m. on Highway 10, near 88 Street and Ladner Trunk Road.

The dump truck and the vehicle, a black Pontiac Sunfire, ended up in the ditch.

Police say the passenger of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy from Langley, died at scene as a result of his injuries. The driver, a 23-year-old woman, also from Langley, was transported to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“Why that collision occurred at this point, it’s really too early for us to speculate,” said Acting Sgt. Sarah Swallow with Delta Police.

Highway 10 was closed in both directions between 104 Street and Highway 99, but it is now open.

Swallow said they have seen more traffic on Highway 10 due to the closure of Highway 17, as a result of the Burns Bog fire.

“There certainly has been an increase in traffic in the area and the rush hours are often going longer than normal,” said Swallow. “So at 9 a.m. it wouldn’t be unusual for there to be a lot of traffic on this road and again, that’s been exacerbated with the Highway 17 closure and some of the Pattullo Bridge closures.”

As part of the investigation, Delta Police Traffic Section investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it.
