LONGUEUIL – Yanick Toupin, 36, appeared in Longueuil court Monday after a teenage girl said she was sexually assaulted in the bathroom at René-Veillet park in Greenfield Park on June 29.
A few softball players on a nearby baseball diamond said they heard the girl’s screams and rushed over.
Player Kyle Boutler told Global News he and his teammates saw a man leaving the bathroom, pulling his pants up.

He was followed by a crying girl.
“As soon as I saw that, I knew something was wrong,” Boutler said.
“I stopped the game and made sure she was alright and then we made sure the guy didn’t get away.”
The players tackled the suspect and waited for police to arrive.
He was then arrested and detained.
Toupin has been charged with sexual interference, sexual assault and forcible confinement.
The prosecution objected to Toupin’s release on bail, citing a fear for the girl’s safety and that of the general public.
He will be back in court Wednesday for the bail hearing.
