Late in the evening on July 1, Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP said they received a complaint of a sexual assault at the Fort Campground in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask.

According to police, a 34-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by an unknown man outside the washrooms at the campground.

While playing with her children on the swings Monday afternoon, Julie Stinky says she’s nervous to hear an assault took place just steps from where her children play.

“I have kids and I want my kids to go into the bathroom and be safe.”

Police say the woman was at the campground to see Canada Day fireworks.

After the assault, another woman, who is unknown to police at this time, assisted the victim into the washroom, police say.

Another resident, Evangeline Krupski says she’s attended the fireworks for the last 16 years and is shocked to hear the news.

“It’s kind of scary isn’t it,” she said, while also sympathizing for the victim. “It’s hard to describe something like that happening to you.”

RCMP are investigating and are asking the public and for the unknown woman who helped the victim to contact police at 306-332-222.
