WINNIPEG – There are plenty of ways to celebrate Canada Day in Winnipeg on Friday.

Here’s a look at some of the events:

Assiniboine Park

Canad Inn Family Fun Day starts at 1 p.m. on Friday. There is face painting, clowns, magicians and live music running all day. Free Canada Day birthday cupcakes will be served at 3:30 p.m. with a fireworks show set for 10:40 p.m.

The Forks

The Forks is one of the most popular places to catch live entertainment and a firework show for Canada Day. Entertainment runs from 12 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. under the canopy and from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the main stage. Fireworks will close out the evening at 11 p.m.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights and Children’s Museum are also running family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Osborne Street Festival

The Osborne Village Canada Day Street Festival kicks off Thursday from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. It runs July 1 and 2 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.

The festival transforms Osborne Village into an exciting atmosphere beginning at River Avenue and Osborne Street. There’s a fashion show, family zone, obstacle course, pony rides, a farmer’s market, a petting zoo and live music.

Goldeyes game

The Winnipeg Goldeyes are playing the Sioux Falls Canaries at Shaw Park. Doors open at 3 p.m. and a special opening ceremony featuring the Canadian Forces will be held= at 4 p.m.

St. Boniface

There are a lot of Canada Day activities happening in St. Boniface. On the Esplanade Riel starting at 12 p.m. there are buskers and live paintings from artists. There is a free walking tour of old St. Boniface at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There is also free admission to the St. Boniface Museum and Fort Gibraltar. If you’re hoping to catch live music, there will be artists performing at the Promenade Cafe and Wine on the corner of Taché Avenue and Provencher Boulevard starting at 7 p.m.

Oak Hammock Marsh

Celebrate Canada Day at the Marsh with a special birthday cake served at 2 p.m. and horse-drawn wagon rides from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. If you’re feeling more adventurous, there is a guided canoe ride ($3 for members and $5 for non-members) or rent your own canoe ($10 for 45 minutes). Festivities run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

St. Norbert Farmer’s Market

Starting at 3p.m., St. Norbert Farmer’s Market will have local food drinks. At 9:30, there is live entertainment and then fireworks at dusk.

Riding Mountain National Park

On Friday there is free entry to the park. A citizenship ceremony will kick off celebrations at 11 a.m. followed by the singing of O’Canada. Free birthday cake will be served at 12:30 p.m. and then free live music.
