A Danish tourist has died in a hiking accident near Clearwater, the BC Coroner’s Service confirms.
Mia Norgaard Langhoff, 20, from Kolding was one of a party of about 20 from an outdoor adventure school who were on a field trip to Canada to mark the end of their course.
The group camped at Clearwater Lake and on June 17 they went on a day hike on Huntley Col Mountain, about 88 kilometres north of Clearwater.
Langhoff slipped on a steep, grassy slope that was covered in fresh snow and slid over a steep embankment. She fell more than 30 metres.
One of the instructors hiked and canoed to get help, which was a seven-hour trip.
CFB Comox dispatched a military helicopter as soon as they heard about the incident, but by the time it arrived, Langhoff was deceased.
The BC Coroner’s Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
