PENTICTON — An injured cyclist had to be rescued from a biking trail in Naramata on Monday night.
Twenty Penticton Search and Rescue (PENSAR) personnel responded to the scene in the Three Blind Mice area and evacuated the injured man.
“When the team arrived in the general area, we divided into two groups with one hiking in and the other driving in on two UTV side by side,” said manager in charge of operations for the event, Dale Jorgensen in a news release.
“The initial response group located the subject at 10:30 p.m. where the subject was being attended by his wife.”
PENSAR’s three rescue vehicles and two UTV’s were guided to the injured man by two Penticton and Area Cycling Association (PACA) members.
“This task proved to be extremely arduous to not only access but also from an evacuation point of view and we were very fortunate to have two PACA members to guide us to the subject,” said Jorgensen.
“With the the terrain being difficult, darkness, slippery slopes from the rain and the injuries of the cyclist we did consider at one time spending the night with the subject and then calling in for air support to evacuate at first light.”
The cyclist was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to an awaiting ambulance by midnight.
