Man charged in Calgary clinic stabbing makes 1st court appearance

A Calgary man accused of killing an acupuncturist he believed was having an affair with his wife made his first court appearance Monday.

Jin Qing Huang, 42, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Dr. Tiejun Huang at the Perpetual Wellness Chinese Centre in northwest Calgary last Thursday.

After reading the charge through a Cantonese interpreter, provincial court Judge Jim Ogle asked the accused if he understood the charge.

He replied, “can I remain silent?”

Court was told Huang is in the process of getting a lawyer.

The case was put over until Friday.

Although both the accused and victim have the same last name, police said they are not related to each other.
