Residents of NE Calgary mobile home struggle without running water

There is mounting frustration at a mobile home park in northeast Calgary, after emergency water main repairs forced crews to shut off running water on Tuesday.

Most the over 400 residents who live in the Midfield Mobile Home Park are seniors, and say they’ve been dealing with an ongoing saga for decades.

For years, they’ve been told the infrastructure on the site is aging and they’ll be forced out to a new mobile park that has yet to be developed.

Residents complain the park hasn’t been properly maintained, and that’s why the emergency repairs are needed on the water main valve.

The City of Calgary owns the property, but it’s run by the Calgary Housing Company (CHC).

Those who have been fighting to stay in the park say living in limbo has devalued their properties and stressed out seniors.

A new plot of land on the outskirts of the city has been purchased by the city to build a new park, but it is months away from starting the development approval process.

The residents have to be given a year’s notice if and when that happens.

As for the water, city officials expect it to be turned back on by late Saturday; but it won’t be drinkable until Monday.
