WINNIPEG — Get out your sunglasses and enjoy the summer solstice.
June 20 marks the first official day of summer in the province, a day where we can enjoy 16 hours and 22 minutes of daylight.
The sun rose Monday at 5:20 a.m. and will set at 9:41 p.m.
And in what is considered a pretty rare event, a full moon will also be on display Monday night.
The “Strawberry Moon” as it’s known – is not named because of it’s colour but was given the name by Algonquin tribes of North America who believed June’s full moon represented the beginning of strawberry picking season.

We’ll continue to enjoy summer worthy temperatures for most of the week ahead. Plenty of sunshine is in the forecast until we get to Friday.
Environment Canada is calling for rain beginning Friday and sticking around through here and there the weekend.
Monday’s high is a pleasant 22 C, but those winds will continue to gust out the west noththwest close to 50 kilometres an hour.
We pick up heat through the week with a high of 27 C in the forecast for Thursday.
It’s still early in the week, but let’s hope we get a bit of break from the rain this coming weekend.
