A man believed to have forced a woman to drive him from Consort to Wainwright at gunpoint was arrested in Dryden, Ont. Monday after evading police for more than 10 days.
Officers at the Provost RCMP detachment received a report at 7:30 p.m. June 16 that the woman had escaped from the vehicle when the man stopped for gas in Czar, Alta.
RCMP said the man ran away from the gas station and eluded police until June 27.
Police service dogs were used to try to track him down and officers from surrounding detachments scoured areas nearby.
When officers searched the vehicle left behind, there was no sign of a handgun.
Police were looking for 31-year-old Jason Masse. He was arrested in Ontario on June 27. RCMP said they will provide an update when Masse returns to Alberta and a court date is set.
RCMP said Masse and the woman know each other. The incident is not believed to be random.
