School district has questions about Osoyoos Secondary funding

It’s still up in the air if provincial funding will keep the doors of Osoyoos Secondary School open.

The school was one of a handful slated to close due to budget constraints and declining enrollment. If it were to close, it means the town of Osoyoos would lose its only highschool.

The Okanagan-Similkameen school district says it needs ‘more clarity’ before applying for the provincial dollars.

Global Okanagan has reached out to board trustees, but has yet to hear back.

A secretary at the Okanagan-Similkameen school district in Oliver confirms the board held a private meeting Thursday night.

Trustees sent a letter to the Ministry of Education outlining their funding questions, but haven’t publicly revealed what those questions were, or what specifically needed to be clarified.

The board says it wait to hear back from the minister before deciding whether or not to apply for the funding.

It hopes to hear back in the next few days and make a decision shortly after.
