Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the fatal shooting of 42-year-old man by a Toronto police officer in the city’s west end.
The Special Investigations Unit said a number of Toronto police officers responded to a rail corridor between Weston Road and Highway 400, south of Sheppard Avenue West.
The police said officers arrived on scene at 6:40 a.m. and that there was an “interaction” with the man at 9 a.m.

Emergency Task Force members were also called to the scene and officers attempted to arrest a man for trespassing under the Railway Safety Act.
The SIU said there was a confrontation with the man and shortly after an officer fired his gun and a conducted energy weapon was also deployed.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to investigate this incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
