Surrey LGBTQ teens to hold their very own prom

More than 100 LGBTQ teens and their friends in Surrey, for the first time ever, will get to stage their very own prom.

The Pride Prom, a district-wide event, is open to any Surrey high school student in any grade.

The event will take place at Guilford Park Secondary on Monday night.

For both the organizers and the students involved, the Orlando shooting has served to underscore just how important events like this can be.

“I thought, as a society, we were better than that,” said Grade 9 student Alisa Atchison. “But I guess some of us are still uneducated about these topics and not open-minded about these things.”
