The province’s police watchdog has charged a Waterloo Regional police officer in connection with an alleged sexual assault at the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, Ont.
It’s the second sexual assault charge laid by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in southern Ontario in as many weeks.
Det. Const. Zachary Gent is facing one count of sexual assault in connection with the alleged incident at the college in April 2015. Gent will appear in a St. Thomas, Ont., court on July 26.

On May 31, a Chatham-Kent police officer was charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman at around 2 a.m. on August 23, 2015.
Police said she was picked up in a marked police cruiser and driven to a parking lot in the Orangewood Boulevard area, where she was sexually assaulted.
Chatham-Kent Police Service Const. Kenneth Miller faces one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust. He is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on July 5.

Miller was suspended from duty on Aug. 27, 2015 after the investigation was launched and has also been charged under the Police Services Act with discreditable conduct.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
