Two single-vehicle rollovers in one night have St. Paul RCMP issuing plea

Two serious rollovers – both involving young people – have prompted RCMP in St. Paul, Alta. to ask drivers to stay alert and safe on the road.

The first crash happened on Friday at around 3:30 p.m. on Range Road 93 near Township Road 574.

RCMP said the driver of a pickup truck heading south lost control, drove off the gravel road and rolled several times onto its roof. Three youth – including the driver – were inside at the time.

The driver and front passenger were able to get out and call for help. St. Paul firefighters had to rescue a young woman trapped inside. All three were taken to the St. Paul Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old driver was charged with Careless Driving under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act.

Then, several hours later, emergency crews were called to another rollover.  It happened around 9 p.m. on Highway 881 near Township Road 560.

A southbound SUV rolled several times into a nearby farm field and the 19-year-old woman behind the wheel – the only person in the vehicle – was ejected.

She was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

St. Paul RCMP are asking all motorists – regardless of age or experience – to use extra caution on the roads, especially during the busy summer months.
