Orlando shooting: Texas politician apologizes for ‘a man reap what he sows’ tweet

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick came under fire Sunday morning after an ill-timed post on his Twitter account and Facebook page read in part, “A man reaps what he sows.”

The posts were released early Sunday morning, shortly after at least 50 people were killed in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

Patrick’s office issued an apology Sunday saying the posts were automated.

“Regarding this morning’s scripture posting on social media, be assured the post was not done in response to last night’s tragedy,” Patrick advisor Allen Blakemore said in the statement. “The post was designed and scheduled last Thursday.

The full post, which read, “Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Galatians 6:7”, was pulled from Patrick’s Twitter and Facebook page.

Patrick is travelling outside of the United States at the moment.
