Body found near Fraser River identified by police

UPDATE: Vancouver police said the case is considered a targeted homicide and have identified the victim as Richmond man, 26-year-old Justin Pauwat Chan. This is Vancouver’s fourth homicide this year.

The Vancouver Police are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found near the shores of the Fraser River this afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m. today, police were alerted to the discovery of a body at the foot of Bentley Street near the Milltown Marina in Vancouver. According to VPD, the body was found wrapped in a sleeping bag.

Detectives with the VPD’s Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Unit are on the scene to help in the investigation. Further details on the identity of the body will not be known until the body is removed from the sleeping bag and an autopsy is complete.

Investigators are now asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area in the past 24 hours to call the VPD at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
