Fire at Dartmouth convenience store deliberately set: Halifax police

An overnight fire that extensively damaged a Dartmouth convenience store is believed to be an act of arson, Halifax police said Saturday.

The fire broke out at Gaston Road Variety shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.

When firefighters arrived they found the exterior of the building on fire.

They were able to put the fire out but the building sustained significant fire and smoke damage.

There was one person inside the building at the time of the fire, who was able to get out safely.

Police forensics attended the scene and deemed the fire an arson.

The investigation is ongoing.
