Provincial police say a 26-year-old man has died after a pickup truck plunged several metres into a quarry in Southern Ontario following a two-vehicle collision.
Police said the collision occurred at around 7:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Sandusk Road and Haldimand County Road 9 in Hagersville, Ont.
A dark-coloured vehicle was travelling northbound on Sandusk Road when police said it collided with a blue-coloured vehicle that was travelling westbound on Haldimand County Road 9.
The blue-coloured vehicle then left the road and rolled over, while the dark-coloured vehicle continued through the intersection and crashed into Hagersville Quarry. Police said the vehicle was submerged in up to eight metres of water.
A 52-year-old woman and 22-year-old woman, both of Haldimand County, Ont., were transported to a local area hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Police said the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit recovered the body of the deceased man from the quarry, inside the pickup truck.
Collision investigators are assisting and police say the investigation is ongoing.
