A couple moving into a rental property in New York City found a decomposing body wrapped in plastic and blankets with a note allegedly left by the killer apologizing for the smell.
Citing law enforcement sources, the New York Daily News reported the couple was allowed to move into the apartment after the landlord hadn’t seen the previous tenant for quite a while.
The body of ex-con Sidney Harris, 64, was reportedly found stuffed in a cupboard with a note next to it that read “Sorry for the smell.”
A resident of the apartment building told New York news station PIX11 News that an odour filled the hallways for weeks.
“We have stray cats,” the fifth floor resident told the news station. “”I figured a cat died in the back of the building.”
The couple was told they would get rent at a discounted rate if they agreed to clean out the apartment before moving in.
According to a New York medical examiner, Harris died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. It’s unclear how long the Harris’ body was left inside the apartment.
