Queen City to receive Royal visit in June

REGINA – The Royals are returning to Regina this summer to celebrate the Globe Theatre’s 50th Anniversary.

Premier Brad Wall announced Thursday that their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex will be in Regina from June 22-24.

Otherwise known as Prince Edward (Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son) and his wife Sophie Rhys Jones, the couple will visit a number of sites in and around Regina.

“Saskatchewan continues to have a special relationship with Canada’s Royal Family and it is an honour to again celebrate our longstanding ties with this working visit,” Wall said.

Prince Edward is the ‘Royal Patron’ of the Globe Theatre. The building that houses the Globe Theatre in downtown Regina was named the Prince Edward building in 2003.

This will be the Prince Edwards’s 38th visit to Canada and his sixth visit to Saskatchewan. This will be The Countess’ first visit.

Prince Edward last visited Saskatchewan in 2014.
