A woman fainted during a press conference being given by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday afternoon.
Trudeau stopped mid-answer when the woman, one of several dozen people in the room, appeared to lose consciousness. He went over to see if he could help, but found she was already being assisted by multiple people and so returned to the podium and finished his answer.
The news conference was happening at a local hospital, and there were trained medical professionals on the scene.
Trudeau left shortly after the fainting incident, which was captured on camera. There was no immediate word on the woman’s condition.
The prime minister was at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa to announce investments in student summer jobs. He is now on his way to Winnipeg, where he is expected to meet with big-city mayors from across Canada.
Fainting spells during political events are nothing new. In fact, there have been several recent incidents in the U.S. involving people passing out during speeches.
