Manitoba victim in violent assault at treatment centre blind in left eye

After a brutal beating at the Selkirk Behavioural Health Foundation Sunday night, Jackie Healey has lost 99 per cent of vision her left eye.

The 23-year-old posted on Facebook Wednesday evening, saying the two teenagers who attacked her hit her in the eye with a eight ball in a sock, cracking her eye bone, causing it to shatter and irritate the nerves. Healey met with an eye doctor Wednesday and said she is now blind in one eye, according to her Facebook post.

“I just cried once I heard that,” posted Healey. “I never expected my life to change so drastically over the last three days.”

Healey is a Red River College student, and was just hours away from finishing her practicum, when she and a female supervisor were severely beaten at the addictions and mental health treatment facility.

On Wednesday, police arrested and charged the two teens accused of beating the two female staff workers.

The RCMP said a 16 and 17-year-old have been charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement, as well as possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous, and theft of motor vehicle.

“I didn’t asked to be attacked and have no choice but to keep moving along,” Healey posted on Facebook.

She also wrote she is scared but is trying to stay positive.
