A Cape Breton woman heading to wildfire-damaged Fort McMurray, Alta., says she’s going back with mixed emotions.
“I just don’t know what we’re walking into this time, to tell you the truth,” said Barb Penny, who lives in Sydney Mines, N.S., and works in the Alberta community twice a year, two months at a time.

She works as a labourer and stays at a nearby camp.
Penny described leaving the community last month as a “scary” experience.
“I’m worried about the people that actually live there that lost everything. They must be going through a lot, too,” she added.
Penny, who landed in Edmonton Wednesday morning, said she’s glad to get back to work and especially excited to catch up with her coworkers.
“It was just devastating to see the horror and terror on everybody’s faces. I’m looking forward to seeing some happy faces again.”
