Jack MacLaren came under fire earlier this year for telling a crude, sexist joke about Liberal MP Karen McCrimmon while the two were sharing the stage at a fundraiser.

That controversy was followed by another, when a week later he had to apologize for using fake constituent testimonials on his website.
Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown ordered MacLaren, who represents the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton-Mississippi Mills, to stay away from the legislature for an indefinite period and attend sensitivity training.

MacLaren returned to the legislature Tuesday after his six-week absence by attending a caucus meeting and said after the meeting adjourned that in sensitivity training he learned that “words can hurt.”
He wouldn’t address the reasons he made the remarks in the first place, but said it was a mistake that he regrets, and he vowed that his behaviour had changed.
