Calgary police have charged two people following the theft of debit and credit cards from the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and SAIT Polytechnic.
Police launched an investigation in March after receiving reports of cards stolen from wallets and purses in the U of C’s library and campus change rooms.
As it turned out, similar thefts were also happening at SAIT and MRU.
In total, police believe more than 50 cards were stolen in a three-month period. The cards were used approximately 300 times to purchase items at nearby businesses.
Alexander Louis Harsanyi, 22, of Calgary, and Monica Rebalski, 22, of Calgary, are both charged with multiple counts of theft under $5,000 and fraud under $5,000.
Police say more charges are pending.
Harsanyi and Rebalski are scheduled to appear in court on June 29.
