The spill caused the closure of a section of the Seawall as well.

The spill was spotted by a pedestrian, who happens to be a chemist. The Vancouver Fire Department was called to a long trail of mercury near the Bath House, leading from the edge of the sidewalk down to a park bench.

The entrance to the beach beside the Cactus Club Restaurant was blocked off for several hours.

The fire department called in an environmental officer to help dispose of the spill.

Officials do not know where the mercury came from at this time.
