Delta probation officer held at knife-point rescued without harm

A 49-year-old woman suffering from mental health issues is facing multiple charges after taking a Delta probation officer hostage on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to Delta Probation office in the 8200-block of 120th Street and found a female probation officer being held at knife-point in a locked office by a distraught woman.

They immediately cleared the building and made contact with the suspect through the locked door.

Fearing for the safety of the victim, the officers gained access to the room and formed a human shield between the suspect and hostage, who was then safely removed.

The 49-year-old suspect, who police says has a violent mental health history spanning years, was taken into custody.
