A Hamilton man is facing charges after police say he chased a group of parents and children out of a park with a butcher knife.
Hamilton police responded to reports of a man seen holding a large butcher’s knife and stating he was going to hurt someone in the JC Beemer Park, in the Victoria Avenue North and Wilson Street area.
Police said the man started “waving the knife around openly” causing a group of people, including some small children, to run out of the park.
Once informed police were en route, investigators said the man attempted to escape the area but was stopped in an alleyway near the park and arrested with the knife still in his possession.
The unnamed man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with probation.
Police are crediting the public for quickly calling police and said they have opposed the man’s bail.
