WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg cleaning company has been fined $5,000 for firing a pregnant woman.

The Manitoba Human Rights Commission ruled ‘Take Time Cleaning’ was in the wrong to fire the woman just days after finding out she was pregnant.

The owner of the cleaning company claimed the woman missed too much work for doctors appointments.

The Commission acknowledged the company’s attendance policy, but the Human Rights Code requires employers to be reasonable about it.
