Fire crews give Winnipeg residents tips on fire prevention – May 5, 2016

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Fire Department is sounding the alarm to warn residents about fire prevention.

A number of recent fires, including one on Maryland Avenue that engulfed three homes, have been called “suspicious” by investigators.

To reduce incidents of arson, fire officers are asking residents to hide material that is flammable (including dry grass clippings and old furniture) from their back laneways and to properly dispose of bulk materials.

Marc Proulx, Public Education Co-Ordinator of the Winnipeg Fire Department said everyone has to do their part and be aware of what can catch fire.

He also said keeping combustible items away from wooden fences is an important step.
