WINNIPEG — A convicted killer is seeking a new trial.
A jury last year found Treyvonne Willis guilty of first degree murder in the death of Kaila Tran in 2012.
His hearing at the Manitoba Court of Appeal began Wednesday morning.
The defence is pointing to several reasons why a new trial should be granted including how the judge instructed the jury about Willis’ level intoxication and his intention to commit murder.

A question from the jury during deliberations is also another point of appeal with the defence arguing it was not properly handled by the judge.
Willis was given an automatic life sentence with no chance at parole for 25 years.
He did not appear in court Wednesday.
