Lockdown at Surrey school caused by reports of gunman in area lifted

A police incident had North Surrey Secondary under lockdown for part of this afternoon.

Surrey RCMP received a report of someone with a gun at a home in the 9700 block of 160th Street just after 2:30 p.m.

Officers responded and surrounded the home, but because they didn’t know the exact nature of the threat, they locked down North Surrey Secondary as a precaution, along with the road leading up to the school.

Several people were detained by Surrey RCMP, but have since been released. No gun was found on site.

The lockdown ended around 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
