Former Toronto deputy police chief Peter Sloly, who resigned in February after 27 years on the force, has joined Deloitte as an advisor on risk management and emergency response.

The international professional services firm said in a statement released on Thursday that Sloly assumed his role on April 18.

“Peter has led transformational projects in Toronto and beyond, with an international reputation for being a change agent. He’s a proven leader and out-of-the-box thinker, so we’re excited to bring him on board,” said Ryan Brain, Regional Managing Partner for Deloitte in Toronto, in a media release.

The 49-year-old was considered by many as a leading voice for change on the police force but stepped down earlier this year after he made controversial comments about the need to embrace technology while operating with fewer officers.

Sloly was shortlisted as a candidate to replace former chief Bill Blair last April but that position was awarded to Mark Saunders.

Sloly said in February following his resignation that he had considered leaving the Toronto Police Service after the appointment.

According to Deloitte, Sloly will also be involved in offering advice on cyber risk, security and social media as well as topics on diversity and inclusion.
